南北に長く，国境のすべてが海岸である日本は，実に豊かで特徴的な海藻フロラを有し，これまでに1,500種を越える海藻が報告されている。このHPはその中から100種を精選して紹介するとともに，我が国の海藻学の先駆けとなった岡村金太郎(1867-1935)による海藻画をお送りするものである。

The Japanese archipelago has a unique and rich marine algal flora composed of over 1,500 species of seaweeds. In this site we introduce 100 selections of Japanese seaweeds and illustrations drawn by Okamura Kintaro (1867-1935), a pioneer in marine algology of Japan.
